Outside   Deck

Opened  in 1993, Medicine Lodge has built a reputation as the leader in high quality and economical project recording. With over 60 full-length projects recorded, we are recognized as the most experienced, professional and efficient place to record your music locally. We are serious about our craft and dedicated to producing quality recordings.

Medicine Lodge  is a 24 track recording studio based around the Alesis ADAT system.

We’re using pro grade studio mics by Neumann, AKG, Electro-voice, Shure and Audio Technica into 16 channels of tube preamps for that thick, warm tube sound.

We also have 16 channels of  compression featuring 6 channels of  the Aphex 651, one of  the most transparent compressors available.

Your tracks go to tape sounding great even before they’re mixed.

Control Room

During tracking we use a 6 way stereo monitor system. This provides 6 separate mixes through Sony headphones so each member of  the group can have the mix adjusted to their needs. If you’ve ever tried to perform or record with a less than ideal monitor system, you know how important it is to your performance to hear what you need at an appropriate volume.

Outboard Racks   FX Close Up

We  have a very comprehensive outboard effects collection including a Lexicon PCM 70, a Digitech Studio 400, an ART Multi-Verb III, a Yamaha Spx 90, a Yamaha REX 50, 2) DBX 290’s, and a Roland SDE 1000.

That’s 17 effect returns for your mix. If  that isn’t enough processing we can patch in your own effects through an extensive 336 point patch bay.

We also utilize a custom built 450 Pentium II computer. The pc has digital inputs and outputs, an ADAT interface and is capable of  burning error free, Red Book CDs.

Your project can have all the amenities that provide the polish of  a large studio release.

Last  but certainly not least in the equipment department is the control room monitor system.

We’re using Genelec 1030A speakers as our nearfeild monitors. These are our primary mixing monitors.

Over the years we’ve heard many studio monitors. JBL, Tannoy, Yamaha, and the Genelec’s smoke them all for accuracy, detail and imaging.

Control Room
Face it, if  your speakers aren’t telling you the truth you can’t make accurate judgements on your sound.

We also use a set of  Peavey AMR 308 speakers for playback when substantial volume is desired, so you can double check your mix through a 3-way system... loud.

Control Room Ceiling Another  advantage at Medicine Lodge is the facility itself. We have three isolation rooms and a control room big enough for a band to stretch out in.

The control room is about 20’ x 18’ with a 15’ high ceiling finished in wood with three skylights. The south wall has six windows overlooking a large deck and wooded area.

Being musicians ourselves we’ve worked in numerous large and small local studios. Medicine Lodge was designed to avoid the corporate sterility of  the larger studios and the claustrophobic vibe of  the bedroom and basement home studios.

One  of  the biggest things that sets Medicine Lodge apart from the other small studios is our experience.
Angela Studio manager Angela Hash has spent two years in club management, seven years in band management and seven years in live sound engineering. Since coming to Medicine Lodge she has been the producer on several released discs, numerous "singles" and assistant recording engineer on over thirty five projects. One of  the finest sets of ears on the planet!
Jeff Chief engineer and founder, Jeff Hoffman, has recorded 70 full-length projects since opening the studio in 1993. Out of  these 70 projects, 32 have been released on cassette or disc, many of  which are receiving international sales and airplay. Prior to opening Medicine Lodge, Jeff engineered, performed on or produced six other full-length projects. The first professional recording he was involved with was in 1981 as a writer, musician and producer.

Our combined experience makes us very knowledgeable in all facets of  the music business. We operate in a professional and efficient manner, saving you time and money while delivering the highest quality recordings and mixes around. So, with using high quality mics, tube preamps, Aphex compression on primary tracks, digital recorders, digital editing, Genelec monitors and years of  experience, the rest is up to you.
